Cell Broadcast (Area Info, Cell Info Display)
Cell Broadcast is a free service were VodaFone transmits where
you are from the tower you are connect to. It's not as accurate as a GPS (Global Positing
System) but it gives you a good idea of were you are. To activate this service, Look for
Cell Broadcast (Motorola), Cell Info Display/Cell Info (Nokia) or Area Info (Ericsson) to
Topic/Channel number to 50 (Nokia's Cell Info Display/Cell Info is fixed to CH 50). You
can also use Broadcast Messages (Nokia) Set to topic number 50.
"Brisbane CBD" is an example of what might come up on
your screen.
Dual Band (GSM 1800) Cell Broadcast
All dual band (GSM 1800) cells/towers will have modified cell broadcasts. They will
have the original cell broadcast, plus "DualBand" at the end. E.G The cell
broadcast for one of the cells in Brisbane CBD in QLD is "CBD DualBand"
Unfortunately VodaFone has decided to take off the
"DualBand" of all there current and new GSM 1800 cells. I personally believe
this is a stupid idea, Especially conceding the lack of info from vodafone on the subject
and they are selling dual band mobile phones!!!
