Global Roaming Service

Global Roaming service allows VodaFone users to use there mobile phone in overseas countries that have GSM 900 networks and a roaming agreement with vodafone. When activated you can use your mobile overseas just like you do in Australia! There are 2 types of global roaming, Automatic and Plastic. Automatic roaming allows you to use you mobile overseas just like you do know with the same mobile number. Plastic roaming requires you to get a temporary new SIM card and a new temporary number. You can still use your new SIM in Automatic roaming areas.

To enable Global roaming you must ring your service provider at least 3 working days in advance for Automatic roaming and 5 working days for plastic roaming. You may also be asked for a security deposit. It may also take longer then 5 days for plastic roaming.

Mobile Phones Info

To make sure you mobile with work on the overseas network, you must make sure you mobile supports the right frequency or flavour of GSM, be it GSM 900 (as use in Australia) GSM 1800 (used as Dual Band in AU) Or GSM 1900 (not used here). These mobiles are known as "Dual Band"(2 GSM Flavours supported), "Multi-Band" (2 or more supported)or "Tri-Band" (3 Bands supported) phones.

Here is a list of phones and GSM "Flavours" they support. This is a Guide, I'm sure there are quite a few mobile phones i have forgotten. I have try to list many GSM 900 + ECT.. Mobiles. Because Voda AU uses GSM 900 as it primary Band.

If you are travailing to Australia and need to rent a mobile phone while you are here. Try this site http://www.vodarent.com.au/  Or you can buy a Fast Fone (Pre-Paid) pack when you get here.
